About Gold Note

Gold Note Vineyards, located in Fair Play, California, grows winegrapes in the Fair Play Viticulture Appellation. We make small quantities of rich, complex wines from the Petite Sirah and Zinfandel winegrapes we grow in our estate vineyards and from varietal grapes harvested by local growers in the Fair Play Viticulture Appellation.

We've created a vineyard environment where we lovingly grow our winegrapes, then harvest only the grapes that will provide the best juice when pressed during crush.  This means foregoing quantity, for quality. We leave behind the grapes that can't carry a tune!

For our 2005 Chardonnay vintage, we used grapes harvested from the Chui Enjoy Gold Note Wines!Vineyard. This beautiful Chardonnay will be released in early June 2006. For our 2005 Barbera vintage, we used grapes harvested from Naylor Vineyard. Barbera is new to our repertoire and will be released in late 2006.

The Gold Note Ranch is also home to Noel Christmas Trees. If you've been to Fair Play, you may have seen our Christmas trees growing along Fair Play Road. Our estate vineyards are located on the hilltop above these trees.

it's a year-round process to create that magic moment on harvest day...

Gold Note 2005 ChardonnayGrowing winegrapes is a hands-on endeavorwe work year-round growing our grapes so their unique flavors can be savored by wine lovers in Gold Note wines. During Winter, the vines are dormant so it's the perfect time for planning the coming year and traveling to meet with customers at wine tastings. During Spring, we're busy pruning and hand-tying vines so they mature into head-trained shapes.

During Summer,  we work to ensure the vines get just the right amount of water. We also hand-thin the grape crops so the remaining clusters fully ripen to their highest quality.  In the Fall, six weeks before harvest, we stop watering the vines to deplete the amount of water in the grapes thus concentrating their deep, fruit flavor.

These grape-growing practices reduce our yield per acre but result in the richness and complexity of Gold Note wines so wine lovers "taste the music"!
