From the 2008-2009 El Dorado County Farm Trails & Visitors' Guide:

Welcome to the Fair Play Wine Country

Expect to fall in love with Fair Play at your first taste of its award-winning wines. You’ll enjoy your visit and want to return
season after season and year after year.

Fair Play is catching the attention of wine lovers and wine judges across the country. Generating this excitement is the discovery of new award-winning wines and the fun, informal environment at over twenty family-owned wineries. Fair Play is now the wine tasting gem of the Sierra Foothills. Fair Play winemakers may dispense with pretense, but there’s nothing unsophisticated about their wines.

If you’re a Zinfandel lover you can taste many of the nation’s best in Fair Play. Latcham Special Reserve Zinfandel and Granite Springs Estate Zinfandel both won Double Gold at the 2007 California Zinfandel Championship. Gold Note Zinfandel won Gold Best of Class, and Perry Creek Zin Man won Gold at the 2007 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Tasting Competition, the largest competition of American wines in the world.

Another award-winning varietal in Fair Play is Petite Sirah. Gold Note Petite Sirah won Double Gold at the 2007 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Tasting Competition. Granite Springs Petite Sirah won Double Gold at the 2007 Riverside International Wine Tasting Competition, Gold at the 2007 Long Beach Grand Cru, and Gold at the San Francisco International Wine Tasting.

Fair Play winemakers are also proud of their Syrah, Barbera, and Chardonnay. At the 2008 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Tasting Competition, Perry Creek Altitude 2401 Syrah, Gold Note Chardonnay, and Gold Note Barbera all won medals. The success of these wines is just a sample of the many distinguished awards won by the wineries located in the Fair Play Appellation. One taste and you too will be passionate about Fair Play wine.

Fair Play is a complete year-round visitor destination offering friendly hospitality. You’ll find lodging, gourmet dining, Christmas tree farms, horse farms, alpaca ranches, a Victorian iris garden, and more. Planning a private event? Fair Play is the perfect place for family reunions, weddings, and company meetings. Whether you’re a wine connoisseur or just learning about the art and science of winemaking, you’ll enjoy visiting the tasting rooms in the Fair Play Wine Appellation.

Visit any time or attend a special event. The Fair Play Wine Festival is the first weekend in June. The Fair Play Wine & Poker Run is held once a month. The Fair Play Amazing Race is held quarterly.
